In Espai Tau Kids we work on the detection and assessment of children with SEN. The assessment is carried out by a systemic, interactive and contextualized way. We do not like to group children into fixed categories, since the same child can present different deficits and capacities.
What we intend to do is analyze the development and learning potentials in order to adapt the therapies and the school intervention in a more individualized way. With school´s participation it is important to assess the type of teaching that the child needs and the resources that will help him/her.
What the NEE will do is give children with difficulties the possibility of belonging to an ordinary school, but with the adequate support they need. However, in our opinion, it is not necessary to have some SEN since many children without difficulties have different ways of learning.
Health and education professionals must always start from an understanding way that a child learns, in order to decide what will be the best way to treat and educate him/her.
According to a study by the OECD (1993), there are six traits that are most relevant to helping children with SEN:
- SIMPLE DIDACTIC
- VARIOUS TEACHING MODELS.
In Espai Tau Kids, we agree with these premises and seek the maximum potential of each of our children, in order to alleviate possible special educational needs.
